In our machining process some parts go through the same machine more than once, and sometimes several times before completion. When creating my model, before the part goes through an operation for a second time, I have to "split" the object and essentially re-id the part with a different suffix so that it has a uniqe name when going through a second time. This makes creating the model more difficult especially if the majority of our parts do this and it also makes the reports/summaries more confusing as now there may be several "objects" that make up one part.  Is there an easy way to resolve this without using code? If not, how does one go about coding this into the model?

I wouldn't create/split objects in this case for the reasons you mentioned. I would rather assign an object parameter and use conditional routing to determine destination. EDIT: This way you can use the interface and not have to worry about any coding.
